Running from March 17 – 28 our carefully crafted Spring Break day camps are a blend of science, exploration, games and crafts and give children the opportunity to learn and play in the beauty of VanDusen Botanical Garden!

Bird Identification Workshop (Online)

This 5-session series presented by the Vancouver Avian Research Centre (VARC) is perfect for beginner and intermediate birders eager to deepen their knowledge and identification abilities. Through engaging and interactive sessions, participants will explore avian evolution, behaviour, migration, and advanced identification techniques, including tackling challenging groups like shorebirds, raptors, and gulls.

Designed to be educational and fun, this course provides the tools and techniques to boost your confidence in identifying birds in your local area and beyond.

Drawing Tree Shapes and Textures (Online)

Join local artist Katharine Dickinson for an immersive online series on capturing the beauty of trees through drawing. Over three engaging sessions, you’ll refine your observational skills, explore colour matching, and uncover the unique features that define different tree species.

Learn essential drawing techniques inspired by botanical art and tree photography, simplifying concepts like foreshortening and perspective. Practical exercises will focus on textures and details, including bark, twigs, leaves, and cones, using live tree examples.
