Taking Flight: Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration Opening Event

How to Use Daylilies for Rope Making and More (In-Person)

Saturday, September 10 2022 10.00am - 2.00pm

Daylilies are an excellent drought-tolerant, easy-care plant and an ideal material for soft basketry: easy on the hands and plentiful in the garden.

Join Sharon Kallis, Lead Artist and Executive Director of EartHand Gleaners Society, to learn how to use them as material for rope making and then take that rope into other possible woven forms. Expect to leave with a few small samples, lots of inspiration, and the capacity to continue an independent winter weaving journey with success.

September Qigong Series (In Person)

Join Anita Wong of the YS Traditional Chinese Medicine & Martial Arts College for an introduction to Qigong.

Qigong is a meditation in motion, and a simple but effective system to enhance overall health and fitness. This exercise incorporates breathing techniques with body movements and directs energy throughout the meridians. Through this three-session course, you will relax the body and mind, strengthen bones, enhance balance, and improve blood circulation. This series is suited for beginners and experienced students, with easy-to-follow steps and deep relaxation. Class starts with Qigong practice, followed by some Taichi steps to close.

Storytelling & Hula at Bloedel Conservatory

Friday, September 16 2022 5.30pm - 7.00pm

Poh Tan is back at Bloedel Conservatory to connect people to plants and animals through storytelling and hula (Hawaiian dance).

Poh will share different stories from previous sessions and additional beginner hula steps.  In addition to being a scientist, Poh is also a hula dancer and she learned with Kumu Josie de Baat from Halau Kia’i O Ka Hula.  Join us to learn a few basic steps of hula and how hula can help tell meaningful stories about our environment.

World of Wasps - Guided Walk

Wasps have incredible diversity, even greater than bees, and perform many vital roles in a healthy and dynamic environment that most people are unaware of. Explore the diverse ecology, and invaluable contribution wasps make to pest control and pollination with local expert Brian Campbell.

See their nests, learn how to identify these extraordinary creatures, and maybe even learn to love them.

Pollinator Profiles Guided Walk & Hummingbird Banding

Saturday, September 17 2022 4.00pm - 7.00pm

Join us on September 17th from 4pm-5pm for Pollinator Profiles, featuring a guided walk highlighting some of the fascinating pollinators found in the Garden, in particular, our 2 native hummingbird species.

This exclusive afterhours evening will continue with an informative and fascinating session of Songbird & Hummingbird Banding from 5pm-7pm after the Garden has closed.

Chigiri-e Paper Art: Flowers

Thursday, September 22 2022 1:30pm - 4:00pm

Chigiri-e is a Japanese art form using pieces of hand-dyed washi paper to create beautiful and detailed images. The result resembles a watercolour painting with a delicate texture.

In this hands-on, creative art workshop, you will practice handcrafting skills, learn step-by-step Chigiri-e paper techniques and create two art pieces. Supplies included.

Indoor Vertical Garden (In-Person)

Explore living walls and window farms and the systems used to implement them indoors, so you can enjoy a variety of plants year-round.
