Botanical Illustration: Seasonal Harvest (Online)

Tuesday, November 2 2021 - Tuesday, November 16 2021 10.00am - 12.00pm

Learn how to draw seasonal vegetables from an aesthetic and botanical perspective while improving your observation and artistic skills. This online three-session course is ideal for anyone wishing to approach a beginner level of botanical drawing. Students will be given step-by-step instructions on how to progress through botanical drawing projects using graphite pencils. Instructor Katharine guides students through contour and gesture drawing exercises, followed by longer studies using line and tonal drawing techniques.

Wild, Native and Medicinal Plants (Online)

Tuesday, November 23 2021 7.00pm - 8.30pm

Explore the world of plants from a First Nations perspective with Educator and Herbalist Lori Snyder. Understand the importance of native plants for food, medicine, and shelter for all species. Find out how to best use these plants, seasonality and when to harvest, and what can be made with them. Get a deeper understanding and appreciation for the plants around you using the six Rā€™s: responsibility, respect, relationship, relevance, reverence, and reciprocity.

 

How to Support Overwintering Birds in the City (Online)

Tuesday, November 30 2021 6.00pm - 7.30pm

Explore how birds benefit our ecosystems and take a closer look at species that stay in BC year-round. Learn how to help our feathered friends survive colder months and how to create bird-friendly spaces to help them thrive. This online presentation also explores the challenges birds face and the science helping to protect them. Presented by: VBGA and the Vancouver Avian Research Centre (VARC).
