Taking Flight: Greater Vancouver Bird Celebration Opening Event

Vancouver All British Field Meet Classic Car Show

Saturday, May 18 10.00am - 4.30pm

The Vancouver All British Field Meet (ABFM) returns to VanDusen Botanical Garden on May 18 for their annual British car show on the Great Lawn. Presented by Hagerty, expect to see nearly 500 cars in 62 different classes. The event will also feature live entertainment, food trucks, vendor booths, merchandise for sale, high tea options and more. event ticket is required to access the event area.

Summer Pruning: Principles and Techniques

Gain invaluable insights on pruning Japanese Maples, Birch Trees, and Plums, as Laurelle, following ISA pruning guidelines, guides you through the dos and don’ts. In this session, we will discuss locations and settings to bring out the splendour of trees. With Melissa’s expert guidance, we will visually dissect the essence of a tree and craft tree portraits that you’ll be proud to showcase. Do not shy away from experimenting with in-camera filters, lighting effects, and depth of field to add that extra touch of magic.

Introduction to Qigong

Join Anita Wong of the YS Traditional Chinese Medicine & Martial Arts College for an introduction to Qigong. Qigong is a meditation in motion and a simple but effective system to enhance overall health and fitness. This exercise incorporates breathing techniques with body movements and directs energy throughout the meridians. Through this three-session course, you will relax the body and mind, strengthen bones, enhance balance, and improve blood circulation. This series is suited for beginners and experienced students, with easy-to-follow steps and deep relaxation. Class starts with Qigong practice, followed by some Taichi steps to close.

August Intro to Bird Watching

Long-time VanDusen birding guide Jeremy Gordon is back on-site with this seasonal favourite! During this introductory level class, he will discuss the best birding resources, such as binoculars and field guides, share tips on identifying local & migratory birds, and highlight hot birding spots around Vancouver. Following a one-hour classroom presentation, Jeremy will take you for a walk to look for some of the 106 species of birds in the Garden.
