Botanical Watercolour Series (ONLINE)

Thursday, October 15 2020 - Thursday, October 29 2020 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Join Susan Pearson for a 3-week series on botanical watercolour. Each week you will focus on a single botanical specimen, and channel all your colours into the stem, leaves and flowers. With finer brushes, you can bring intricate reference materials to this workshop in order to create a realistic painting. Use your creativity to choose colours, while maintaining discipline in your portrayal of botanical pieces.

 

Fall Harvest: Preserving 101 (ONLINE)

Saturday, October 24 2020 4.00pm - 5.15pm

Award-winning nutritionist and avid gardener Erin Levine will lead this class through a lecture and hands-on virtual demonstration, giving you the confidence to use what you’ve grown in your garden to prepare for the colder months ahead. Bring VanDusen into your kitchen, and learn about the techniques and nutritional benefits of fermenting your foods in this workshop.

Incense & Infusions DIY Demo (ONLINE)

Thursday, October 29 2020 5.30pm - 7.00pm

Flower essences are used in holistic medicine to promote emotional and spiritual healing. Plant incenses stimulate a sense of calm in the brain, helping with mood stabilization, sleep, and digestion. Herbalist and educator Lori Snyder will lead an online demonstration of how to make your own flower essences and incenses from local plants of the Pacific Northwest. Leave this workshop with a greater connection to the earth-given ways of managing your deeper health and wellbeing.

Illustrating Fungi (ONLINE)

Saturday, October 31 2020 10.00am - 12.00pm

Join Katharine Dickinson to illustrate fungi up close in this autumn workshop. Students will use a combination of watercolors for colour matching, blend the subtle color variations with wet-on-wet followed by dry brush techniques, adding colored pencil to create surface texture effects. Some experience with drawing and watercolour is recommended, lots of instructor guidance and step-by-step demonstrations.
