Brush with Nature2018-04-14 2018-06-26 Location: Roberta Mickelson Gallery in the Library
The 4th Annual Vancouver plein air group exhibition of images painted onsite at VanDusen Garden.
“Brush with Nature” will run from March 31st until June 26th, 2018
In their fourth annual exhibition, a dozen outdoor painters from the Vancouver plein air Group reveal their ‘brushes with nature’ throughout a range of locations and seasons at VanDusen Botanical Garden. Whether painting the Laburnum Walk or the Autumn Stroll, their interest is caught in colour, light and shadow patterns. Weeping willow reflections in Heron Lake are executed in full colour in soft pastels, and lotus flowers, painted in oils can be found dancing in the morning sunlight and calling attention to the garden’s design and patterns of textures. Watercolour brushes speak in a softer language, capturing the more ethereal aspects of underbrush or the beauty of the Rose Garden, while the vitality of an aged Amur tree is contrasted with spring blossoms in the background. Other painter’s brushes are drawn to a closer focus, depicting the garden’s elegant hydrangeas or a tulip-patch in spring. The four seasons are represented in these works, and speak to a great love and appreciation for VanDusen Garden and its designs.
